Choosing a static caravan is exciting, but choosing where it sits matters just as much. The right location is the difference between a holiday home you visit every other weekend and one you rarely get round to using. Here are the things we’d suggest thinking about before you buy.
How far are you willing to travel?
Be honest about journey times. A park within two or three hours of home is easy to reach for a Friday-night getaway, so you’ll get far more use out of it. A park further away can feel like a “proper” holiday every time you arrive, but you may visit less often. Think about the routes too – a ferry crossing, like the short hop to Dunoon, can become part of the fun.
Coast, countryside or both?
Some people want to hear the sea; others want peace, forest and hills. Many parks offer a bit of both:
- Coastal parks – sea views, beaches and seaside towns, like Cullen Bay Luxury Park on the Moray Firth.
- Countryside and loch-side parks – quiet surroundings and walking on the doorstep, like Cot House Caravan Park on the Cowal Peninsula.
- Countryside close to the coast – the calm of the country with beaches a short drive away, like Scalby Close Park near Scarborough.
What’s nearby?
Look beyond the park gates. Are there shops, cafés and places to eat within easy reach? Walking routes, beaches, golf courses or attractions you’ll actually use? If you have a dog, are there good walks nearby? A short drive into town can make a big difference on a rainy day.
The park itself
Visit before you buy, and ideally more than once. Things to check:
- The park season – some parks are open all year, others close for part of the winter.
- Site fees and what they include.
- The atmosphere – lively and family-focused, or quiet and adult-only.
- Rules on pets, letting and the age of homes allowed on the park.
- How well the park is kept, and whether there are plans for new pitches or improvements.
The pitch
Even on the same park, pitches vary. Think about the view, privacy, how close you are to roads or facilities, and whether there’s room for decking and parking. A pitch on a new development can be a good opportunity to get the spot you want.
Come and see for yourself
The best way to know if a location is right is to spend some time there. If you’d like to look around any of our parks, get in touch and we’ll arrange a visit.
